Today I decided to get myself to some place where I could relax in the sun and preferably also cool myself in some kind of water. As I wrote yesterday this town is not made for walking so I went online to check for possibilities to take a public ride to the beach since a cab would cost around 30$ one way. Couldn't really figure it out so I went down to the front desk to ask for some guidance. After bombarding the poor guy with a thousand questions about buses and directions I changed my mind and decided to walk to the closest public pool area here in Coral Gables - which is the Venetian Pool.
The guy at the front desk suggested that I should take the buss but I thought I could try to get to know the area by walking. It wasn't that far, took about 25 minutes, and I got to see some things. I think I'm going to jump on a sightseeing bus next weekend if I'm not busy. I've heard that's the best way to get to know your way around a city.
After a couple of hours in the sun by the pool and a stop at Starbucks on the walk back, I decided to go home and put on my running shoes. I may have ran around 1 km maybe less when my foot started to ache, I sprained my ankle 2-3 weeks ago and it apparently hasn't healed completely yet. So I walked instead. I looked at Google maps when I came home just to see how far I was, all in all i actually walked 6,5 km (4 miles) - not that bad?
This is what the sidewalks look like - empty ;) Me, myself and I
The neighborhood around the public pool
Chose a spot on the rather empty "beach" at the Venetian pool and was pretty satisfied.
And got to be in the middle of a family's gathering for a birthday party, kind of understood why the little beach was empty, but what the heck I just plugged in my headphones and closed my eyes. Cumpleaños feliz!
Lookie lookie, it really happened. My foot still hurts, but i feel kind of proud. It was worth it!
Took a break on my walk home from the pool and enjoyed an ice-latte on a bench in the sun.
